BUREAU OF STATE PARKS
Dear Milton AYSO Parent:
The purpose of this letter is to welcome you to Milton State Park, and to ask a couple of small favors. As you
probably know, Milton State Park is an island in the west branch of the Susquehanna River. Underneath the
grass, the park is composed of layer after layer of river mud. It is extremely slippery, especially when it gets wet.
Over the years, we’ve had to repair many ruts where people have driven and gotten stuck. Occasionally vehicles
are even damaged as a result. I have included a couple of photos of what can happen on the second page of this
letter. Please help us keep the park looking nice (and avoid getting stuck) by parking only in designated parking
spaces.
In order to help you find parking, I have included a map of the park that shows additional parking spaces that you
may be unaware of. The green circle is what is known as the North Parking Area. It is accessed by driving
straight down the ramp when coming from Milton, or by following the main park road around to the first stop sign
and turning right when coming from West Milton. The blue circle is the Boat Launch Parking Area. Normally,
this area is closed to vehicles without trailers, however people attending AYSO sponsored events are also
permitted to park here during the event. In addition, you may utilize parallel parking along the north side of the
main park road between the restrooms and the exit to West Milton where the orange line is – provided that you do
not block the STOP sign.
In addition, the Rangers and I take the safety of you and your children very seriously. Please note that the speed
limit in the park is 15 miles per hour, and understand that it is important that you not park in such a way that
you’re blocking STOP signs. Drivers who are unfamiliar with the park may be unaware of the need to stop and
collide with other vehicles – or even worse, hit a child.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any additional questions, please contact a Ranger or the park
office.
Sincerely,
John Clifford
